The Guthrie Theater's 2022 production of 'The Tempest', directed by former Artistic Director Joe Dowling, offered a vibrant reimagining of Shakespeare's classic. With Regina Marie Williams casted as Prospera, the traditionally male role of Prospero was transformed with a newfound depth engrained in the mother-daughter relationship at the play's heart. The production was noted for its inventive staging and dynamic use of music, incorporating unexpected elements that brought a fresh energy to the play and reaffirmed the Guthrie's— and this production's creative team's— commitment to breathing new life into classic works.
