Snow in Midsummer is a gripping reimagining of a classical Chinese drama, transformed by playwright Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig into a chilling modern ghost story. Based on the Yuan dynasty play The Injustice to Dou Yi That Moved Heaven and Earth, this haunting tale explores the aftermath of trauma, buried injustice, and the unrelenting pursuit of truth and love. Set in a drought-stricken factory town in contemporary China, the story follows Tianyun, a sharp businesswoman arriving to acquire a struggling factory, only to confront a community plagued by more than just environmental decay. When her young daughter begins seeing the ghost of Dou Yi—a woman wrongfully executed years earlier—long-buried secrets begin to resurface.
